Meet Roy Howard, Our New Dean
Roy Howard has been selected as the Dean of the Academy of Artful Leadership, an organization dedicated to strengthening congregational leaders through the coach approach method. As Dean, he will emphasize collaborative models of leadership and provide administrative partnership to the Director and Founder, Chris Holmes. Our vision is that the Academy of Artful Leadership will be a vital national source for skill development and imaginative leadership.A fully trained coach with the International Coaching Federation, Roy brings a wealth of experience to this position. He served 10 years as a clinical social worker (MSW) prior to 32 years of pastoral ministry (MDiv and DMin), most recently 18 years with Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in N. Bethesda, Maryland.
Roy is also a certified facilitator with Healthy Congregations (Peter Steinke) and has been an active coach and consultation for those pursuing authentic and innovative ways of leading.
He will continue to teach the core AAL Leadership course and maintain his own coaching practice: Kairos Coaching.Roy is well known for his interest in integrating theology with pastoral ministry, having convened several collegial groups for theological reflection on pastoral practice. Roy also serves as Book Editor of The Presbyterian Outlook. He is married to Claudia and they have two adult daughters, Rachel and Rebecca along with their dog, Patrick the Beloved.
It’s a delight to welcome him into this new role which will strengthen the Academy’s vision to be a collaborative partner in developing the best skills for congregational leaders and those whom they serve.
